Dissent in its many gradations is disagreeable, doesn’t win popularity contests. If you had criticized slavery or child labor or advocated women’s suffrage in America in the wrong time or place, you could have been handcuffed, and lucky at that… Dissent can be a dicey business. If it’s not at least a bit uncomfortable, it’s probably not real dissidence.

Morgan, the advocate for all faculty. Who will be there to fight for you if and when you fall. Certainly not I as i am ashamed to even call myself faculty with your actions.
I'm no one's advocate. I speak my mind and I'll put my name on it too. I suspect there will be no one if and when I fall. Ashamed of being faculty only because of me—how pitiful. You shouldn't give anyone that much credit.
Morgan I appreciate your support of the Fish. However to those above, I feel saddened. Duane is an amazing man who does not deserve this. He has worked hard for 33 years for the institute and not just for a paycheck but because he loves it. I don't think anyone should fear going to work. Please watch what you say. This isn't a very easy situation especially for him. This would be hard on anyone and him and his family are doing the best they can do to stay positive and hope for the best and that he can continue to work for students that he cares so much about.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of that "43" votes of no confidence expressed by the faculty FO last week. I'm told that some have already reconsidered their vote—tenured at that. Well, at least their jobs are secure.
Yes, I should be careful of what I say and admittedly, I have said things that were regrettable, but have said so later. What I regret most is a moron like me feels the need to speak out because many others—more powerful, more eloquent, more respected, more knowledgeable, and more connected individuals are perceived as silent. Perhaps they are involved in back room deals that are attempting to accomplish the same things I strive for—but I'm not privy to.
In the mean time, I challenge all who comment here to "live on the edge" and sign your name—live outside of your safe little world. It's not like you're shipping off to Afghanistan. Nevertheless, if you can't do that, your comments are still welcome.
I wonder what would happen if a strong number of faculty lined up outside a certain door on Monday, when a certain meeting was going on... to cheer or boo loudly regarding its outcome so all in the building could hear the ruckus. I suppose that would be just a bit too much drama for NWC (Pollyanna U). Sorry for being such an idealist, dreamer, ass, etc.
I'd like to address the first commenter. Duane Fish has a character that has been formed by years of selfless service to Northwest. He will leave a legacy of excellence; in teaching, in leading, in forensic competition, and in character. To be impugned by anyone in this debate is absurd. To be impugned by someone who does not have the courage to identify him or herself is beyond insulting. I can find no words strong enough to condemn your comment. I do not like to see this get personal, but you have done that. I would like very much to continue this conversation with you personally. My emal is scott.feyhl@gmail.com. My phone number is 406-425-1365. If you have one shred of deacency you will contact me immediately and appologize for what you have implied.
Duane Fish has been one of the most influential people not only at Northwest, but among people who know or have known him. It sickens me that these wonderful people are losing their jobs and that he could potentiality lose his. My hope goes out to them all!

When the fish is rotten you get sick of it.
